Nerve disorders or neuropathies cause abnormal or loss of sensation in the body, most commonly in limbs. The abnormal sensations may be tingling, numbness, burning, pins and needles.
The causes are diverse. Most common causes are diabetes, nutritional and vitamin deficiencies, and chronic illness. Other less common causes are demyelinating disorders, inflammatory and auto-immune disorders.
Treatment consists of medication to reduce the discomfort caused by abnormal nerve function, and to treat the underlying cause of the nerve disorder.
